The Dothan United Dragons delivered another statement win against Southern Soccer Academy in Marathon Park, Austell Georgia. With a commanding 5-0 performance, the Dragons had fans on their feet from kickoff to the final whistle. Just a week after beating the Swarm on home turf, the Dragons made their way to Georgia for more, and they did not disappoint.
The Dragons had a clear mission, to improve from their 2-1 score the week before against the Swarm. Dothan United got that started right when the whistle blew and in the 16th minute of the first half, an attack opportunity opened up for Santiago Hoyos. Santiago took the chance and made an open goal strike, leaving the score 1-0.
Then, in the 34th minute, a corner kick was setup for Dothan United. Another great opportunity that led to a cross shot from inside the box by Stefano Campisi. The shot went off the hand of the of the opposing team’s goalie and made its way to Jaden Strumeier, who knocked it into the left side of the goal. Making it Dragons 2 and the Swarm 0 (2-0).
And in the 42nd minute, Hoyos seized his second goal of the night, putting it past the goalie on a penalty kick and making the game 3-0.
The Dragons final goal of the first half arrived just after the clock ticked into overtime. A stunning cross from the right by Ivan Jolivet got to Laurie Goddard who slotted it on home, which gave Dothan United the 4-0 lead right before halftime.
After halftime, the Dragons got back on the field after an eventful first half, ready to make strategic plays and continuing to defend their goal. However the DUSC would only have one offensive production in the second half after the Swarm came out hot and fired up for the second half. As Hoyos secured the coveted hat trick for the evening with another penalty kick opportunity. He sent the goalie to the left and put it home to the right netting for Santiago’s third goal of the evening to make the final score 5-0.
This win marked their 5th straight victory overall and fourth league win, improving to 5-1-0 (4-1-0 in South Central Division) with 12 league points. While SSA falls 1-5-0.
