DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – After months of speculation, public voting and waiting, there is now a name set in stone for the newest member of the United Soccer League (USL) that will call Dothan its home.
The Dothan United Dragons name was unveiled on Tuesday at Mercedes Benz of Dothan during a public ceremony hosted by team owner Steve Donner.
Donner said it was a long process chopping through the many submissions, but that three names stuck out as the front runners from public suggestions: Dothan United, Wiregrass United and the Dothan Dragons.
In the end, two of those names were utilized for the official moniker of Dothan’s semi-pro soccer team, which will begin play in USL League Two in early May.
The colors of the team will be red, black and gold, similar to those of Dothan High School. Mercedes Benz of Dothan will serve as the primary sponsor of the team, with their logo being used on the team’s jerseys.
The team’s logo is expected to be released in two weeks, and tryouts for the team are set for March.
Season tickets will go on sale on February 1. For additional information about the Dothan United Dragons, you can visit their Facebook page here.
