Dothan United enters the 2025 USL League Two season with determination, as they prepare for a schedule packed with exciting matchups and the emergence of strong new teams in the area. The addition of teams like Montgomery and Columbus into the league means the competition level will be higher than ever, but Dothan has paved the way for the emergence of the new teams with our historic success, and set the bar high. After gaining national attention for our success here in Dothan, other Alabama communities want a part in the world of soccer. Head coach Carl Reynolds is optimistic about the upcoming season, new rivalries in the area, and the opportunities ahead.
Carl Reynolds
“We did a really good job working together to have the schedule span out along the whole summer for the fans, with substantial breaks in between for recovery and regrouping from travel. I don’t think we could be happier or have asked for more.”

Pre-Season Match Against Mobile
Dothan United kicks off their journey with a pre-season friendly against AFC Mobile on Saturday, May 3rd, at Rip Hewes Stadium. Mobile is part of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) where they built a reputation for competitive sport. Dothan’s match against them will be a good test for Dothan United’s early form.
Reynolds acknowledges the significance of the emerging rivalry, saying, “Columbus and Mobile have had success in NPSL leagues, so we expect them to be strong.” This clash will allow Dothan to prepare for the regular season.
Montgomery United: A New Rivalry Begins
On Saturday, May 10th, Dothan will face off against Montgomery United FC, another new member to USL League Two. Reynolds expects a fierce battle: “Montgomery is a brand-new team, and we don’t know what to expect from them. We expect them to come at us strong as our local rivalry.”
Montgomery’s addition to the league signals the expansion of soccer in Alabama, and their match against Dothan will likely serve as the first chapter in what is expected to be an exciting rivalry.
Key Home Matches at Rip Hewes Stadium
Dothan United’s home matches at Rip Hewes Stadium are always a highlight for fans, and the team will have plenty of opportunities to defend their home turf this season. After the pre-season matchup with Mobile, Dothan hosts Montgomery United on Saturday, May 17th, followed by a series of crucial home games, including:
- Southern Soccer Academy (SSA) on May 31st
- Orlando Atlético on June 10th
- Tennessee SC on June 18th
- Columbus United on June 28th
Columbus United, another new addition to the league, comes to Dothan with a history of success in the NPSL.
Tough Away Challenges Await
While home-field advantage is key, Dothan will face its share of tough road matches. Their away schedule includes games against strong teams like Southern Soccer Academy, East Atlanta FC, and a rematch with Montgomery United. These away fixtures will challenge Dothan’s depth and resilience, but Reynolds is confident that the team is ready for the challenge.
“We are going to get high-level competition every week, and we want to be leading in the conference. The challenge is going to be a big one, but we are more than ready for it,” he said.
A Balanced Schedule for Success
The 2025 season promises to be a challenging but exciting one for Dothan United. The team will face new rivals in Mobile, Montgomery, and Columbus, while also preparing for high-level competition across the league. With a well-structured schedule that allows for recovery, preparation, and built-up excitement, Dothan United is poised to take on every challenge that comes their way.
“The teams are going to come back stronger. We will have to be better this year, as planned,” said Reynolds. His optimism and confidence reflect the team’s readiness for the season ahead.
Dothan United fans are encouraged to mark their calendars for the home opener on May 17th, where the team will take on Montgomery United in what promises to be an intense local rivalry. With high expectations and strong competition ahead, the 2025 season is shaping up to be an unforgettable one for Dothan United.
